Mid-Season Report Card : 90210 GRADE : C+ Being a fan of the original series, and of the much hyped and very well written first season, I must say that this season has been a bad bad season. It’s like the writers wanted to revamp the show, but failed miserably. It’s like the current writers had never watched the original series and attempted to create something new. Let’s start with when did the Wilson’s decide to move and why? That plot was never really explained. So we see a lot less of rooms of that “new” house that seems to be smaller than the Walsh’s house. The entire dynamic of the Wilson’s has been thrown out the window. Harry and Debbie barely speak. They are not on the same page about raising their kids. Who lets their daughter be in that kind of mood all summer and not do anything about it? There seems to be no more rules in that house. Twice Dixon left town, LEFT TOWN for crying out loud without either of the parents knowing about it. He had an affair with an older woman and might have got her pregnant and his father turns around and rewards him by putting a good word for him to his surfing coach!!! How about the zero screen time for Dixon and Annie. Except when they tell each other to go to hell, they have zero chemistry. How is it possible to stay in the same house and have ZERO contact with each other? I have a brother I tried to ignore and for the life of me it was not possible. How can they have been so close, and then because Annie called the cops on the illegal party and they had to go to summer school he treats her like dirt. I know that it is the point of the plot to exclude Annie from everyone, but even her own brother? The entire story of Annie running over a homeless man was enough to create enough drama for the entire cast, instead we have her running around with the guys nephew (I will go back to him later…) and except for her conscious, no real repercussions has been felt. Teddy is somehow involved with the investigation, but we have seen nothing yet about it. Now the writers would surprise me if they wrote in that Jasper knew about Annie’s involvement and was planning something vengeful, which would be amazing. But I don’t think I could give the writers that much credit. Another character this season that is getting on my last nerve is Naomi! How dare she criticize Annie on anything? She embarrassed her in front of the entire party and she expected what, for Annie to leave without a word. I am glad that she had to go to summer school and glad she is not getting what she wants. Naomi is an awful person that should be brought down a notch or two. And hopefully, when she figures out what her evil sister has done, she will feel the pain and shame she inflicted on Annie. And I hope that Mr. Matthews will offer his apologies for thinking the worst about his student over his bitchy girlfriend. In character growth, I have to say that Silver this season has been a breath of fresh air. She is grounded and principled and her scene with her mother Jackie (guest star Ann Gilepsie) was just amazing. It was too much to hope that the writers would use flashback scenes of Jennie Garth and Ann Gillepsi from the original series to close that episode. When you have video footage of that nature you should be using it. Liam is also growing on me. Him and surf chick make an interesting pairing. She seems to have a lot going on inside that head of hers and could just imagine scenes of her and Naomi cat fighting for Liam. I think she should become Annie`s new best friend. Annie needs a friend, don’t you think ? I think also this season; Navid has grown into a take action kind of guy. He dumped Adrianna for the skunk she was. Come on, you dump him for someone hotter that does not want a commitment and you go crawling back to Navid. No way would that fly with anyone with any self respect. Navid is now messing with psycho Jasper, will just see who stays down on this one. Now, about Jasper. KILL HIM OFF PLEASE. He has no screen presence, has only one tone and annoys the crap out of me. He has no chemistry with the actress who plays Annie at all. So kill him off, better offscreen. Make him the one that ran over dear uncle so we can conclude this story once and for all. I can’t wait to see the lesbo-Adrianna story and hopes it sticks. I would really love it for her to grow up and stop resorting to pills. So far, the series is not a total failure, but if the second half of the season is has bad I doubt sincerely it will be renewed. Next article will cover what I would love to see happen on 90210.
